Shrink-swell index in GeotechOS Lab

This course follows one shrink-swell index test through GeotechOS Lab on an iPad. You add a client and a project, book in an undisturbed sample, do the swell test and the core shrinkage test, and read the result. Then a reviewer and an approver sign the result off, and the report is issued and emailed to the client.

Who this course is for

Laboratory technicians who test reactive clays, and the people who review, approve and issue the results. Know the test before you start. The course teaches GeotechOS Lab, not the method.

What you need

• A free GeotechOS account.
• Your laboratory's licensed copy of AS 1289.7.1.1. The course gives clause numbers, never the standard's text, tables or limits.

Questions

Does Lab support the 2003 edition?

No. Lab follows the 2025 edition with Amendment 1. Lab measures the swell strain from the last reading before inundation, as the current edition says.

Can I do the test on a computer or a phone?

Yes. The worksheet is the same on a computer, an iPad and a phone. This course shows an iPad.
