Moisture, consistency and density
Record the moisture condition and the consistency or density of soil as depth bands in Borehole Logging, with AS 1726 codes such as M, St and MD.
Applies toWindows and macOSWeb browser
The moisture condition and the consistency or density of soil often change at depths that are not the same as the layers. Borehole Logging records each as a band: a top, a base and one value. The log sheet prints each band in its own column beside the description.
Before you start
Enter the lithology first. See Describe the soil and rock.
Add a moisture band
- Open the hole's Moisture table, in the Geology group.
- Type the Top and the Base of the band.
- In Moisture condition, type the code, or select it from the list:
| Code | Use it for |
|---|---|
| D, M, W | Dry, moist or wet coarse-grained soil (sand and gravel). |
| M (<PL), M (≈PL), M (>PL) | Fine-grained soil that is drier than, about at, or wetter than the plastic limit. |
| dry, moist, wet | The words in full, if your template prints words. |
- Press Enter. The app saves the band.
Add a consistency or density band
- Open the hole's Consistency/Density table, in the Geology group.
- Type the Top and the Base of the band.
- In Consistency/Density, type the code:
| Soil | Codes |
|---|---|
| Fine grained (consistency) | VS very soft, S soft, F firm, St stiff, VSt very stiff, H hard |
| Coarse grained (density) | VL very loose, L loose, MD medium dense, D dense, VD very dense |
- For a range, for example firm to stiff, type the first code in Consistency/Density and the second code in to.
Rules for bands
- The bands in one table must not overlap.
- A gap between bands is allowed. The log sheet prints nothing in the gap.
- A band can cover part of a layer, or more than one layer.
