Bring data in and send it out

Read field sheets and survey photos

Pin scanned field sheets beside the tables in GeotechOS Borehole Logging, let the server read them into rows, and read hole positions from survey photos.

Applies toWindows and macOSWeb browser

A field sheet is the log that the logger wrote by hand on site. Pin the scan of the field sheet beside the tables, and type the log from it. Or let the server read the sheet into rows that you check before they go in. The server can also read hole positions from photos of a surveyor's pickup sheets or GNSS screens.

Pin a field sheet to a hole

  1. Open the hole.
  2. Click Hole › Field sheet. The Field sheet tab opens in the bottom panel.
  3. Click Add scan, then select the scan. You can select an image or a PDF. Borehole Logging splits a PDF into pages.

The scan shows under the table, so you can type the log from it. Use the buttons to zoom in, zoom out and fit the page. Borehole Logging keeps the scan on your computer and sends it at the next sync.

To remove a page, click the remove button on the page, then click Remove. This does not delete the file on your computer.

Read a field sheet into rows

The server reads the handwriting on the field sheets of a borehole and makes rows from it. You then choose what to bring in. This works for boreholes only, and your computer must be online.

  1. Pin the field sheets to the borehole. Wait until the sync sends them.
  2. Click Insert › Read field sheets, or click Read sheets in the Field sheet tab.
  3. Wait while the server reads the sheets. This takes a minute or two.
  4. Borehole Logging shows the rows that the server read, as an import. Choose what happens to data already here, and look at the notes.
  5. Click Import.

See Import AGS 4, gINT and PDF logs for the choices.

Caution: Handwriting can be read wrongly. Check each row against the field sheet before you issue the log.

Read hole positions from survey photos

The server reads the hole name and the position from photos of a surveyor's pickup sheets or GNSS screens. Your computer must be online, and the investigation must be on the server.

  1. In the project tree, click the investigation.
  2. Click Insert › Survey photos.
  3. Select the photos or scans. You can select up to 50 pages.
  4. Wait while the server reads them.
  5. Borehole Logging matches each reading to a hole by the name on the photo. Look at each reading:
    • Change the hole if the match is wrong.
    • Clear a reading that must not be written.
    • Tick Replace a position already set to replace the position of a hole that has one.
  6. Click Write 3 positions. The button shows the number of positions.
